Portland Yacht Club was established in 1869 and moved from Portland to Falmouth in 1947.  This members’ only, private Club is located on the shores of Casco Bay, off Route 88 in Falmouth, Maine.  PYC is a fun place to work and we welcome applications from experienced and qualified individuals.  Below are our 2019 employment opportunities.

WATERFRONT OPPORTUNITIES

420 Race Coach and Sailing Instructors

Coach orientation begins June 17 (5 days) and post season wrap up August 17. Sailing Instruction begins June 24 and runs through August 16, 2019. Classes are structured in 4 separate two-week sessions. PYC’s well-designed curriculum guides coaches while offering opportunity for innovations in instruction. Training for position: US Sailing Association Level One course for instructor certification. This course is required for teaching sailing at most yacht clubs including PYC. Course runs Friday through Monday, May 24 to May 27, and is open to both members and non-members. USSA Level One Sailing Instructor Cert. Course. Register with US Sailing Association.

Launch Operators

Season runs from May through mid-October. Full or part-time positions available. Responsibilities include providing safe transportation to and from moored vessels using Club launches and additional tasks such as: cleaning boats, fueling, assisting with tie-ups, etc. Rate of pay is $15/hr Contact: Heather Sheehan, Waterfront Manager, Portland Yacht Club, Cell: 518-570-9115 or email 

Training for position: Boatwise US Coast Guard Launch Operator Course and Exam for Certification Saturday and Sunday, February 9 &10 from 8am to 5pm.
Class is open to both members and non-members. PYC Members receive a discount. Register here. Tuition reimbursement, over a 3 year period, is available for new hires.

Food & Beverage Opportunities

Line Cook Position

The season runs mid- May through September. Full or part-time positions available. Lunch and/or Dinner shifts. Our private restaurant is looking for a professional Line Cook who can prepare meals as per our standard recipes. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating meal portions, cleaning food, cooking a meal and keeping a sanitized work area. We are seeking an individual who has experience in the food service industry and is committed to impeccable food presentation and garnishing, which is essential for impressing our members. Dishwasher/Utility Position

The season runs mid- May through September. Full or part-time positions available. Lunch and/or Dinner shifts. Our private restaurant is looking for a Dishwasher/Utility Person who works well with others while following sanitation guidelines in the kitchen. Responsibilities include:
• Operating the dish machine
• Supervising proper rinse and wash temperatures
• Changing water, storing and using dish chemicals properly
• Setting up and organizing the dish racks
• Removing trash
• Floor-sweeping and mopping
• Exhibiting teamwork

Server

The PYC Dining Room operates from mid- May through September. Full or part-time positions available. Lunch and/or Dinner shifts. Most weekends. We are looking for skilled Servers to take orders and deliver food and beverages to dining Members. Polite and gracious, PYC Servers are unique individuals. Their patience, personality, and perseverance uplift the Member’s experience. Responsibilities include: greeting and serving Members, providing detailed menu information, and multi-tasking front-of-the-house duties. You should be a team player and be able to effectively communicate with our Kitchen Team to make sure orders are accurate and delivered promptly. The housekeeper will have an eye for detail and cover all aspects of cleaning the Clubhouse from: vacuuming, dusting and polishing; to washing bathrooms, showers, floors, baseboards, walls, windows and screens. Maintain inventory of paper products and cleaning supplies and notify manager when low. Outdoor porches would need to be swept and hosed down. Recycle bottles, cans, paper and cardboard are loaded to dumpster bins. The Housekeeper would learn, over a period of time, how to identify priorities and special off-season projects.

House & Grounds

Housekeeper

We are seeking a self-starter for this hands on position. This is a seasonal job-share position with our other Housekeeper, 16 hours per week,  April through mid-October.

PYC Housekeepers have an eye for detail and cover all aspects of cleaning the Club House from: Vacuuming, dusting and polishing; to washing bathrooms, showers, floors, baseboards, walls, windows and screens; Maintaining inventory of paper products and cleaning supplies . Sweeping & hosing down outdoor porches  and loading recycling into bins are some of the responsibilities.

The ideal candidate would demonstrate a positive attitude and the willingness to figure out what needs to be done and how to do it.
