Emily Egan / Program Director
Emily is returning for her second season as Program Director after many summers of coaching at PYC. She learned to sail at Arundel Yacht Club, and sailed collegiately at Bates College. Emily participates in J/24 fleet racing on Casco Bay. She resides in Kennebunk and teaches English at Kennebunk High School. Emily oversees the junior and adult sailing programs at PYC.
Elizabeth Newberry / Pram
Elizabeth grew up sailing at Portland Yacht Club, where she continues to sail with her family on their Beneteau “County Girl.” While a student at Bonny Eagle High School, Elizabeth sailed for the Southern Maine High School team out of Sail Maine. She currently studies Music Education at the University of Maine. Elizabeth was a member the aquatic staff at a Boy Scout camp in prior summers and is a BSA-trained lifeguard. Elizabeth is enjoying coaching the Pram sailors in her first summer at PYC.
Audrey Morin / Opti Combined
Audrey Morin grew up sailing at Portland Yacht Club and was a member of the Opti and 420 race teams. She continues to race on the Falmouth High School sailing team. In her free time, Audrey can still be found sailing on Casco Bay aboard family’s Etchells called “More Cowbell.” Audrey is an EMT in Falmouth. Audrey is an Opti Combined coach; this is her second summer at PYC.
Olivia Surprise / Opti Combined
Olivia Surprise learned to sail at Camden Yacht Club, where she enjoyed sailing her 420 called “Porcupine.” She currently lives in Portland and studies at the University of Southern Maine. Olivia enjoys traveling and sailing – especially when she can do both! Olivia is an Opti Combined and Peanuts coach; this is her second summer at PYC.
Paul Grisko / Opti Green Fleet
Paul hails from Marco Island, Florida. He learned on open longboats out of Marco Island Yacht Club and continued to sail through Outward Bound programs. He has taught junior and adult sailing lessons at St. Petersburg Sailing Center (FL) and Camp Nor’easter (WA). He enjoys cruising and racing lasers, J/24s and other keelboats including his family’s Key West. He sails collegiately for the University of South Florida, where he is studying Education. He is a certified lifeguard. Paul coaches the Opti Green Fleet. This job brought Paul to Maine for the first time.
Becca Ferguson / Opti Green Fleet
Becca is a summer residence of Long Island, Maine. You can look for her commuting to PYC by kayak! Becca grew up sailing with her family on Casco Bay, and found her love for racing as a member of the Pingree School sailing team. She currently sails for Bates College, where she is an Environmental Studies major. Becca shares her passion for the outdoors as an orientation leader at Bates College and an intern with the Massachusetts Audubon Society. In the winter season, Becca is a ski instructor at Bretton Woods. Becca coaches the Opti Green Fleet; this is her first summer at PYC.
Keelan Conway / Opti Race
Keelan Conway, from Ireland, is returning to Maine to coach the Opti Race Team during his third summer at PYC. Keelan sailed competitively for University College Dublin and raced Lasers out of Royal St. George Yacht Club. He is also a member of the J/24 Sea Bags Sailing Team based in Portland, Maine.
Morgan Casey / 420 Adventure
Morgan is from Biddeford Pool and is an active sailor at Biddeford Pool Yacht Club. She is a former junior sailing instructor at Biddeford Pool Yacht Club and Arundel Yacht Club. Morgan has made a big impact in her first season at PYC. In addition to working as the 420 Adventure & Peanuts coach, she also drives the launch and runs race committee on Thursday evenings. In the winter you can find Morgan on the slopes; she graduated from Carrabassett Valley Academy and has since worked a lift attendant at Sugarloaf.
Amy Macdonald / 420 Green Fleet
Amy Macdonald is from Summit, New Jersey. She learned to sail on turnabouts at Southport Yacht Club in Maine. She later founded the varsity sailing team at Summit High School, and is the co-captain of the Bates College sailing team. She is a math major a Bates College. For the past two summers, Amy worked as a sailing instructor at Raritan Yacht Club. She is enjoys getting to know the greater Portland area this summer as she travels to MIRCs with her 420 Green Fleet sailors.
Andrew Arter / Keelboat Adventure
Andrew Arter is from Damariscotta and learned to sail on a submarine, so he claims! He did actually sail his 34-foot Pacific Seacraft called “Merlin” from South Bristol, Maine to the Bahamas. He is in the process of becoming a United States Coast Guard approved captain. He previously worked as a sailing instructor at YMCA camp in Round Pond, Maine. He is a certified lifeguard and an engineering student at the University of Maine. Andrew Arter is the Keelboat Adventure coach; this is his second summer at PYC.
Chris Manson-Hing / 420 Race
Chris Manson-Hing is from Marblehead, MA and is a product of Pleon Yacht Club. He is a former member of the US and Trinidad and Tobago National Optimist teams and a current member of the US Sailing Team Development Program. Most recently in August 2016, Chris was named a member of the Red Bull Foiling Generation and is training on hydrofoil boats for the Youth America’s Cup. Chris sails collegiately for Hobart-William Smith. He is the 420 Race Coach in his first season at PYC.
Fan Tai Bridges / Apprentice
While growing up on Peaks Island, Fan Tai was an active member of several junior sailing programs in the area including TEIA, Sail Maine and then Portland Yacht Club. She is entering her senior year at Casco Bay High School, where she competes on their sailing team. She lives in Portland, and enjoys taking advantage of all the city has to offer including the arts, waterfront and nature. This is her first summer on the sailing staff; she is working closely with the Pram and 420 classes.
