He has a number of plans to enhance the junior sailing experience at PYC this season including an increase emphasis on student sailing in the Learn-to-Sail Program, and expansion of the advanced sailing opportunities for teenagers, such as the Race Team and big-boat sailing. When not on the water, Chris is an Individual Education Program Coordinator at Falmouth School Department.
Sam Yankee will be coaching the 420 Green class this season. He is a rising senior at Waynflete School in Portland. Sam grew up racing Optis and 420s at the Harraseeket Yacht Club in Freeport, more recently moving into larger keelboat racing around New England. His favorite boat to sail remains the C420. 420s are fun, light, and pop right out of the water when the spinnaker is set. There is no feeling quite like flying downwind on a gusty afternoon. He is looking forward to an amazing season!
Audrey Morin is coaching the Opti Race Team this summer. She went to Falmouth High School and a rising senior at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. Audrey is majoring in biology. She started her sailing career at PYC in prams. She went through the program to eventually sail on the Opti and 420 race teams. Audrey has raced on the Falmouth High School sailing team throughout high school and am currently on the Hobart and William Smith Sailing Team. She enjoys sailing Etchells, specifically More Cowbell her family’s boat. Etchells are great racing boat and she haves enjoyed many summers racing it with her family on Casco Bay. One thing she really loves about the Etchells is how well they can point upwind, it’s incredible!
Sandy Yale is coaching green fleet and she is excited to help the kids learn to love racing as much as she does. A senior at Yarmouth High School and is looking at UNH, URI, and UVM. Sandy has been been sailing at PYC since she was 7, racing optis at age 11, and currently races 420s, sail on the women’s seabags j/24 team, race with her dad on his Etchells, and occasionally race lasers! Her favorite boat is 420s because she loves using the spinnaker and the trap!
Wes Pratt is assisting the 420 class this season. This fall he will be in his senior year at Yarmouth High School. Wes has been doing youth sailing since he was seven. Wes started with JC9’s, then moved on to 420’s. He now sails competitively for Yarmouth High School. This is his fourth year teaching youth sailing. His favorite boat to sail is a 420 because of their maneuverability and size.
