2019 Fall Series
September 14, September 21, September 28, and October 5
As we approach the end of the sailing season the nights turn frosty, leaves begin to show their true colors, the steady fall breezes blow – it’s time for the Fall Series!
This annual series consists of 4 Saturday races, 3 of which start at 13:00, are sailed on Casco Bay and designed to last two to three hours. The 4th Saturday and typically the second event of the series is the venerable “Lightship” race, where the fleet heads out into the open ocean around the Lightship buoy off Portland then races back into Casco Bay. After every race is a traditional Chili and Chowder party is provided by the club.
As with all PYC races, all boats are welcome to register and participate. PHRF certificates are NOT required, nor is a PYC membership. A minimal entry fee is charged and the event typically delivers some great racing. Perpetual trophies are given to the overall series winner, as well as the winner of the Lightship race. Other prizes are given in both the cruising and racing classes. Moorings are available to those who are registered and need them on the days around the race. Opportunities to crew and volunteer are made available. Contact Doug Coyle, Portland Yacht Club Race Officer to get involved.
