Member News – Carter White

The Clifford D. Mallory Trophy is awarded annually to the U.S. Sailing Adult Sailing Champion. Competitors first race in regional championships. Those winners proceed to the national championship, hosted this year by the St. Petersburg YC. Sailing in J/70s, the three-person crews over three days sailed 20 races in a round-robin format, then 10 more races for the final competition.

PYC member Carter White skippered the winning boat in the championship. Sailing as the representative of SailMaine, Carter and his crew finished with 30 points, well ahead of the second-place finisher. Starting slowly as they learned the characteristics of the J/70, they got three firsts and 4 seconds in the final round.

Carter, son of member Dave White, and husband of Molly White, has been involved in every phase of racing here at PYC, from Junior Sailing on up. PYC can be proud of such a fine champion.
