This program is for adults, taught by adults. Both men and women over 21 years of age are encouraged to participate. The instructors are seasoned J/24 Skippers with professional experience in teaching sailing, most of whom are PYC member-volunteers. The club will provide the two J/24 keelboats. Adult Sailing is a fabulous opportunity to acquire or strengthen keelboat sailing skills. And after sailing around Casco Bay, participants are invited to stay at PYC for an informal sunset social hour and sailing debrief.
PYC Adult Learn-To Sail PROGRAM
Adult programs include women and co-ed and intermediate co-ed classes. Both classes include basic sailing skills, boat terms, rigging, tacking, gybing, and points of sail plus fine-tuning sail trim, reading tell-tales, and boat handling skills.
PYC has two J/24 Club boats available with one instructor per boat. Five student slots are available per each J/24 boat. Students rotate through learn-to-sail positions. Students may bring their own U.S. Coast Guard approved life jacket. Bring a ready bag with a windbreaker and hat as it can be cool in the evening.
We offer two-week sessions in July with four classes per session. Every class starts promptly at 5:30pm and ends at 8pm. First class meets on the second floor deck under the canopy. Enter from exterior stairwell north end of building.
