Nights turn frosty, leaves begin to show their true colors -- it's time for the Fall Series!
On the first Saturday, September 17, if wind is sufficiently strong, the fleets cross the line for a 24-mile jaunt to the "Lightship" (actually the LNB) and back. Well, the wind was not strong enough, so a regular Fall Series race was held. The Lightship was re-scheduled for September 24. Unfortunately, that day brought light winds (not to mention showers, though they don't count....) So the Race Committee decided to hold a truncated "outside" race (that is, starting outside the Hussey and/or sailing to a mark closer to shore than the Light Buoy). In any event, there will not be another attempt to conduct the traditional Lightship Race.
October 1 dawned foggy and calm. As the day wore on, the fog diminished to haze, but the calm wouldn't budge. Racers drifted around for three hours after the starting time. Finally everyone agreed there was no hope for a start.
We count the best three days of four to decide our Division Champions. Also this year the PYC Fall Series is counted in the GMORA overall season championship adding even more excitement. For the latest Scratch Sheet, see below.
For those who wish to race just one or two events, we are offering individual race options or our reduced fee for the entire series. You'll find complete information on pricing on the registration page (see below). (Note: As of September 10, late fees apply. Thus, the Fall Series is now $145, the Lightship only is $75, and other individual races are $50.)
Traditional Chili & Chowdah are provided after each day's sailing with the ever popular C&C Cook-off on October 8. It is always fun to calculate the points leaders in the PYC Race Series Championship (Pilot, Schooner, Monhegan, Fall Series) as the last weekends fly by.
Dig out the thermals and foulies, come join us -- we'll even provide free moorings on Saturday nights for those registrants who need one. For questions and mooring requests, contact Race Officer Tim Tolford at
