Since 1950, Portland Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program’s mission has been to provide an enjoyable, safe, hands-on educational experience in the timeless tradition of sail, providing memories to last a lifetime. Our Program has become one of the top Junior Sailing Programs in New England, and the Nation, through the consistent involvement of committed Portland Yacht Club members and parents, and, most importantly, through the efforts and participation of our Junior Sailors. Junior sailors do NOT have to be kids or grandkids of PYC members, though they are required to become members of Portland Junior Yacht Club (annual dues of $30), as part of registration.

We exist to teach sailing, seamanship, boating safety and sailboat racing skills to children between the ages of 8-18. Our instructional programs are designed to develop in our students greater sailing ability, self-confidence, social skills, goal setting, achievement, and understanding of boating safety and interaction with others in a unique environment.

We are an organization that encourages diversity and equality. We invite all to join us as we grow and learn in a spirit of camaraderie and respect, passing on the heritage of sail.
