BOATS USED IN OUR PROGRAM: 
Vanguard Pram: Identical to the 8' Optimist except the boat is
built with more flotation and with an easier rigging system. PYC
currently owns 6 Vanguard Prams which are used primarily in the Pram
Sailing class each morning, and have the capability of being used as
rowboats in any class.
Optimist: an 8' single handed boat designed for sailors between
the ages of 8-15. Because of the small size of the boats and sails,
Optimists are not recommended for sailors over 115 lbs. PYC currently
owns 19 Optimists which are used throughout the program. There are also
anywhere between 10-15 privately owned Optimists in the program in any
given session.
Club 420: 14'
double handed performance racing dinghy. Club 420s are designed for
older and larger students who want to develop double handed sailing
skills and work with a main and a jib. More advanced Club 420 sailors also
use spinnakers and trapezes. PYC currently owns 13 Vanguard Club 420's
which are used for all three levels of Club 420 classes.
