April 2008
The Search Committee received many applications, conducted telephone interviews, and finally met with five candidates from as far away as New Jersey. All five were considered qualified, with each one bringing different areas of expertise in club and waterfront management.
When the interviews and final deliberations were complete, there was one candidate unanimously selected by the committee. The findings and recommendations were presented to the board at a special meeting. After further discussion and questions for the committee, the board also unanimously agreed with the committee. Welcome Bill Richards as the new club manager.
Most of you know Bill as a long time member of the club. He has been involved with many committees, the last rewrite of the bylaws, and numerous other volunteer activities. I am looking forward to working with him…and learning from his vast knowledge of PYC.
In order to avoid any potential conflict, Bill offered to and will resign his membership as a club member. There are other considerations with his employment which ensures that there is no perceived conflict. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this, please contact me or a member of the search committee …Jennifer Yahr, Kristin King, Bill Newberry, Maya Cohen, Ken Porter, Kristen Moroney, and Ross Babcock.
Thanks to the Search Committee for their diligence and hard work.
The town meeting was held on 15 March despite the weather. There were some excellent comments, and discussions by participants. Tim Tolford facilitated the meeting, and brought his many years of experience to the meeting, both as a neighbor growing up next door, and as a long time member of the club. Thanks Tim for your help.
We will be addressing the suggestions from both the January and March meetings at the next board meeting on April 14, and if anyone has comments please send me an email, or call me on my cell (207-450-5658).
The soundproofing panels have been installed in the great room, and the small area ceiling over the carpeted area . The panels look like the original ceiling giving the great room the same open and friendly look that it has had for many years. Its effectiveness was tested Friday night at the cruise pot luck dinner. It worked!

The decks over the Dining Room and rest rooms are almost complete, and they look great particularly with new railings.
Final approval for the patio area was given by the town of Falmouth at their last meeting. The ground is now free of snow (as noted in the picture), and the grading should begin the week of 14 April. We hope to have it completed by commissioning, but will definitely be done before the weather permits outside activities.
I mentioned in my last email that the dockhouse may be completed by Commissioning, it is doubtful. We won’t interrupt activities on the pier during the season, so this may be delayed until the fall. More to come on this.
Note that the boats in the parking lot are uncovered, cleaned up, polished and reading to go. The floats and boats go into the water on 24 April. Nice job Bob Putnam.
The PYC weather station is up and running. Go to the PYC website, and click on weather and check it out. The webcam is next… Thank you again to Dan King who has volunteered his services to make this “high tech” stuff work.
The Committees that I mentioned in my last message to the membership are going strong finalizing plans for the upcoming year. The newsletter covered many of the upcoming activates. More to come in my next email.
Thanks to Jerry Thompson for putting together the spring newsletter. If you did not receive it, please contact Carol at the club.
Think Summer. Hope that your boats are uncovered, and ready to go. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me on my cell (207-450-5658) or email.
Looking forward to seeing you on the water this season.
